This time Toombes points the spotlight on Rubén Frejo, a collagist and graphic designer based in Talavera de la Reina, Spain. He told us himself to be a largely self-taught collage artist and analyzed that over time, his collages have evolved from figurative to more abstract forms. In his beautiful works, Rubén often incorporates the background as a significant element in his compositions, sometimes even making it the focal point. He has studied graphic design and illustration, and you can see how formal education in design field has influenced his compositional techniques – although the works are hectic and raw from time to time, there is still a certain beautiful calmness in there.
His artwork has been exhibited in various locations across Spain, including Toledo, Murcia, and the Basque Country, and has been featured in international publications like Cut Me Up and Contemporary Collage Magazine.
